Abstract
The evolution of ostracod genus Polyzygia (Devonian) is approached in two different ways. The first one is the qualitative method, based on morphological changes of carapaces through time. The second is a quant itative method, by cladistic analysis which forms the base for transfo rmation directions by comparison with an extra-group, using the parsim ony principle (assisted by computer). The resulting phylogenetic trees are compared and allow us to propose a synthetic scheme for the evolu tion of this genus.
