Abstract
To mimic geochemical processes, several alkylporphyrins were heated in the presence of elemental sulfur above 200 degrees C. A variety of pr oducts were observed, and thiopyrano- and thienylporphyrins as well as dealkylated, homologated and dehydrogenated porphyrins were character ized.
