The flow of a rarefied gas mixture in a plane channel with mobile plat
e is considered. The plates of channel are assumed to be of different
nature. Entropy production in the system is calculated and phenomenolo
gical equations of non-equilibrium thermodynamics are obtained. The va
lidity of the Onsager relation for kinetic coefficients is shown. A ph
enomenon called mechanodiffusion is predicted, and an experimental inv
estigation of the phenomenon is carried out. The experimental results
confirm the theoretical predictions. The effect can be used for gas mi
xtures and isotopes separation.
