THERAPY OF MORBUS-MENETRIER WITH OMEPRAZO LE

We report a case of giant fold gastritis identified as Morbus Menetrie r in a 37 years old male. Clinical, radiological and endoscopic findin gs suggested the diagnosis, it was established by full-thickness mucos al biopsy. After a 1-year monotherapy with a proton pump inhibitor the clinical features of the patient dissappeared. Laboratory findings, e ndoscopic macroscopic and microscopic signs normalized in the same tim e. Eventually dysregulation of topical growth factors is the reason fo r the selective increase of mucus glands in Menetrier's disease. Impro vement of the mucosal changes after treatment with omeprazol may be ca used by an influence in this pathogenetic mechanism.
