Feces of 1001 school children aged from 4 to 15 years were examined as
an epidemiological investigation. Direct analyses were completed by K
ATO and RITCHIE methods. The outcome was the global prevalence of inte
stinal helminthiasis in school age children in the Abidjan area is 36,
5%. Male subjects are more infected than females. The most infected gr
oup is aged from 72 to 13 years and the less infected from 4 to 5 year
s. The frequent parasite species are Trichuris trichiura (23,4%), Asca
ris lumbricoides (16,5%), Necator americanus (6,3%), Strongyloides ste
rcoralis (1,4%), Hymenolepis nana (1,1%), Schistosoma mansoni (0,8%) a
nd Enterobius vermicularis (0,2%).
