Abstract
A variation of the emulsion techniques for microbial cell immobilizati on by encapsulation in gel beads is described. The utilized gels are s ilica gel or natural polymers like agar, agarose, phytagel or carragee nan. This technique utilizes the interfacial tension that is formed be tween two liquids of different polarity. The gel-beads are easily obta ined and homogeneous in size. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
