A spectroscopic (XPS, UV-VIS, FTIR) investigation of CpW(CO)(3)X precu
rsors (X = Cl, Br, I, Me and CpW(CO)(3)) has been performed. The spect
roscopic parameters W 4f(7/2) BE, lambda(max) (pi - sigma) and (sigma
- sigma) and nu(CO) are mainly governed by the electron density at t
he coordination sphere of tungsten. The catalytic activity, initial ra
te and %-conversion of tungsten based homogeneous multicomponent syste
ms, with respect to the metathesis of 2-pentene, has been studied.
