Abstract
The performance of several digital processing schemes is compared in t his paper, including a number which have been proposed to aid the iden tification of the central fringe in white-light interferometric sensor systems. The paper aims to illustrate those techniques which enable t he best performance to be achieved and conclusions are drawn on the co mparative merits of a range of methods both in terms of central fringe selection, resource implications and operating ranges and speeds.
