The steady-state energy-transport model for semiconductors consists of
two strongly coupled nonlinear elliptic equations for the chemical po
tential and the temperature of the electrons. The equations are couple
d selfconsistently to the Poisson equation for the electric potential.
The existence and uniqueness of solutions is shown. The key of the pr
oof is a transformation of the problem by means of the entropic variab
les, which symmetrizes the system.
