We study the gyroscopic stability of a three-body system. A new method
of finding stability regions, based on mechanism and criteria for gyr
oscopic stabilization, is presented. Of particular interest in this co
nnection is the theory of interaction of eigenvalues. This leads to a
complete 3-dimensional analysis, which shows the regions of stability,
divergence, and flutter of a simple model of a rotating spaceship.
