Abstract
The stage mechanism of the new decomposition reaction of the beta-ammo nium ethyl complex of platinum(IV) K[Pt(CH2CH2NH3+)Cl-5] with the libe ration of ethylene in the Pt(II)-NaI-H2O-phosphate buffer system at 80 degrees C is studied. The complementary reduction of the beta-ammoniu m ethyl complex of Pt(IV) to the corresponding derivative of Pt(II) is found to precede ethylene evolution.
