Kinetics of 2-propanol dehydrogenation to acetone under conditions of
the liquid-phase hydrogenation of diethyl maleate, acetoacetic ester,
and p-nitroaniline on Raney nickel in 2-propanol-water binary solvents
was studied. The rate of acetone formation in solutions is determined
by the nature of the hydrogenation substrate and by the solvent compo
sition. Suggestions are drawn on the factors responsible for the solve
nt effect on the kinetics of coupled dehydrogenation of 2-propanol.
