50-HZ, 1-MT SINUSOIDAL MAGNETIC-FIELDS DO NOT AFFECT MICRONUCLEUS FREQUENCY AND CELL-PROLIFERATION IN HUMAN-LYMPHOCYTES FROM NORMAL AND TURNERS-SYNDROME SUBJECTS
Mr. Scarfi et al., 50-HZ, 1-MT SINUSOIDAL MAGNETIC-FIELDS DO NOT AFFECT MICRONUCLEUS FREQUENCY AND CELL-PROLIFERATION IN HUMAN-LYMPHOCYTES FROM NORMAL AND TURNERS-SYNDROME SUBJECTS, Electro- and magnetobiology, 16(3), 1997, pp. 301-307
In the present study, we investigated the effect of a 50-Hz sinusoidal
magnetic field at 1 mT rms field intensity on cell proliferation and
micronucleus frequency in peripheral blood lymphocytes exposed for 72
h. Lymphocyte cultures from 5 subjects affected by Turner's syndrome w
ere tested; cultures from 5 healthy donors were also studied to make a
comparison with a control group. No statistically significant differe
nces in micronucleus frequency and cell proliferation were found betwe
en control and exposed cultures from healthy and TS donors. The result
s obtained indicate that the field tested does not exert any genotoxic
effect nor interfere with cell cycle.
