Congenital Gonadal Stromal Tumor of the Testis: Sex cordstromal tumors
of the testis are proliferations derived from a common mesenchymal st
em cell that can give rise to pure or mixed tumors of different stroma
l cells (Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, granulosa cells, theca cells and
primitive stromal cells). Mostly, these tumors are localized benign l
esions, however, malignant growth with metastases occurs in 20% of the
patients. We present a newborn with a multicystic gonadal stromal tum
or consisting of both Sertoli/Leydig cells and granulosa/theca cells.
Pathology, clinical evidence, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis are d
iscussed on the basis of this case.
