Abstract
When the sugar industry and governments contrive to create high sugar prices, high fructose syrups (HFS) become viable alternatives, especia lly as ingredients of soft drinks, Expanding markets for branded soft drinks are being exploited on a global basis, generating rapid sales g rowth and selective expansion of HFS production where sugar is highly priced, Meanwhile, low calorie foods and beverages provide a growing n iche for artificial high intensity sweeteners.
