Abstract
A novel coumarin-containing monomer 6-[4-acetoxyphenyl]coumarin-3-carb oxylic acid (5) was prepared and characterized. It was copolymerized b y high-temperature poly-condensation with m-acetoxybenzoic acid (11) t o give copolymers with <(M)over bar (n)> of 5300-18 000, soluble in co mmon organic solvents and containing up to 40 mol-% of monomer 5. All copolymers were amorphous, with T-g increasing with monomer 5 ratio (f rom 147 to 162 degrees C) and high optical quality films preparable by solution casting from chloroform. All polymers show strong photoemiss ion in the blue-green region and some of them present electroluminesce nce.
