Abstract
The investigations were performed with preparations of Glandulae profu ndae plicae semilunares conjunctivae (Harderian gland) of the magpie ( Pica pica L.). Described in detail are the histological structure (Fig s. 1, 2), the concentration of acidophile and neutral glucosaminoglyca ne with alzianblue stain pH 2.5, as well as in combination with the PA S method. With the help of the PAS method concentrations of PAS-positi ve substances were researched. The Harderian gland of the magpie has a lobular structure and the glandazini are high prismatic gland cells. The gland is tubularly built, and the tubuli expand practically vertic ally in the direction of the central wide lumen in the azini center. H igh concentrations of acidophile glucosaminoglycane and PAS-positive s ubstances were found in all gland cells (Fig. 3), while low concentrat ions were observed in connective tissue.
