Abstract
Generation expansion planning is a challenging problem due to its larg e-scale, long-term, non-linear, and discrete nature of generation unit size. Since the computation revolution, several emerging there techni ques proposed to solve problem. Many of these techniques have been rep orted to use in generation expansion planning. This paper will describ e these emerging optimization techniques, including expert systems, fu zzy logic, neural networks, analytic hierarchy process, network flow, decomposition method, and genetic algorithm and their solving the chal lenging generation expansion planning in future competitive environmen ts in power industry. This paper provides useful information and resou rces for future Generation Expansion Planning.
