Abstract
Helicobacter pylori infection induces autoantibodies to the canaliculi of gastric parietal cells and the occurrence of these antibodies is a ssociated with atrophy. The autoantibodies recognize protein epitopes in the alpha and beta chain of gastric H+, K+-ATPase. An autoimmune pa thogenesis of corpus atrophy is likely but evidence will require cloni ng of infiltrating intraepithelial and periglandular T-cells and demon stration of their autoreactivity.
