Abstract
The vector analyzing power of inclusive pions produced in collisions o f polarized deuterons with various targets (H and C) at angles of abou t 90 degrees in the laboratory frame is measured for the first time at incident-beam momenta from 3 to 9 GeV/c, The measurements are perform ed at the synchrophasotron installed at JINR (Dubna). A value of the v ector analyzing power and the pi(+) and pi(-) asymmetries of opposite signs are observed in d up arrow + H --> pi(+/-) + X reactions at rela tively low beam momenta and pion momenta in the range 300-350 MeV/c, E vidence for nonzero values of the vector analyzing power are obtained in d up arrow + C pi(+/-) + X reactions. The results of Monte Carlo si mulations indicate that the kinematical region where the analyzing pow er is found to be large is dominated by channels featuring intermediat e Delta isobars.
