The utilization of crude ovomucoid from chicken egg whites (OMCHI) for
the separation of drug enantiomers as a chiral selector in capillary
zone electrophoresis (CZE) proved to be unsatisfactory. Because only a
bout 10% ovoglycoprotein (OGCHI), which is responsible for chiral reco
gnition ability, was included in crude OMCHI, we investigated the util
ization of OGCHI as a chiral selector in CZE. To avoid protein adsorpt
ion on the wall, two kinds of modified capillaries, a vinyl capillary
and a linear polyacrylamide-coated capillary, were employed. Separatio
ns of basic drug enantiomers were achieved by optimizing the concentra
tions of OGCHI and running buffer, running buffer pH, and the nature a
nd content of organic modifier. The present method was successfully ap
plied to the assay of eperisone enantiomers. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science
