The effects of CeO2 and BaCeO3 additions on the microstructure of melt
textured YBa2Cu3O7-delta and the extent of interactions between Ce-ba
sed additions and the peritectic melt have been investigated. Both typ
es of additions are effective in reducing the coarsening of Y2BaCuO5 p
articles in the melt during texturing. This appears to be due, in part
, to some Ce solubility in the melt which is thought to modify the 211
