We demonstrate the existence of robust exciton-phonon quasibound state
s (EPQBS) in a two-dimensional semiconductor system, resulting from th
e binding of the e(1)h(1) and e(1)h(2) heavy-hole quantum-well exciton
s with an LO phonon, We show that increasing quantum confinement drast
ically weakens these two-dimensional EPQBS. A theoretical model includ
ing phonon confinement accounts qualitatively for our results, [S0163-
