Abstract
Bergman and Blumenfeld recently published an erratum about the exact e xpression for the effective response of strongly nonlinear composites. In the presence of an exact result, it prompts us to test the quality of our recently developed analytic approximate methods, namely the va riational method and the mean-field theory.
