PdMn disordered alloys with concentrations above 5 at. % Mn display ch
aracteristic properties of spin glasses. We report here neutron-diffra
ction data for Pd90Mn10 and Pd80Mn20 single crystals. Satellite diffus
e peaks were observed for both specimens at the (1 +/- delta 0 0) posi
tions (delta = 0.37 for Pd90Mn10 and delta = 0.16 for Pd80Mn20) accomp
anied with the atomic-short-range-order peak at (1 0 0). These satelli
tes disappear at temperatures far above the freezing temperature T-F.
The origin of the spin-glass-like behavior in PdMn alloys can be ascri
bed to the dynamics of the fluctuating spin-density-wave clusters just
as observed in CuMn alloys. Various properties observed here are comp
ared with those of CuMn alloys. [S0163-1829(97)03342-0].
