J. Hammond et Mm. Dienelt, ENCAPSIDATION OF POTYVIRAL RNA IN VARIOUS FORMS OF TRANSGENE COAT PROTEIN IS NOT CORRELATED WITH RESISTANCE IN TRANSGENIC PLANTS, Molecular plant-microbe interactions, 10(8), 1997, pp. 1023-1027
Transgenic plants expressing either bean yellow mosaic potyvirus or ch
imeric potyvirus coat protein (CP) were inoculated with various potyvi
ruses. Antigen-coated plate, indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assa
y and immunoelectron microscopy of virus purified from transgenic plan
ts showed that progeny virions contained from <1% to as much as 25% tr
ansgenic CP. Different levels of transcapsidation may reflect the exte
nt of compatibility between transgene CP and the viral CP.
