Abstract
We performed hole-burning Stark effect experiments on Mg substituted h orseradish peroxidase and its complex with naphthohydroxamic acid. For comparison we also investigated Mg-mesoporphyrin in an ethanol/glycer ol glass. The results demonstrate that the inversion symmetry of the p orphyrin ring is broken by the protein environment.
