Abstract
The photo-conductivity of isolated thoxy-5-[2'-ethylhexyloxy]-1,4-phen ylenevinylene), MEH-PPV, chains in dilute solution, as measured by tim e-resolved microwave conductivity, decreases markedly on photo-oxidati on. The optical absorption and emission characteristics are much less sensitive to photo-oxidation. Comparison with results for PPV derivati ves with broken conjugation indicate a quantum yield for photo-oxidati ve defects in an air saturated solution of ca. 1 x 10(-5).
