Abstract
Several alpha,alpha-difluoro-gamma-lactams (2) were prepared by radica l cyclization of amides (1) which were initiated by a single electron transfer (SET) process from the benzeneselenolate anion. Deselenation of these lactams (2) gave the corresponding alpha,alpha-difluoro-beta- exomethylene lactams (8). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
