M. Matsui et al., ELECTROMAGNETICALLY LEVITATED PROBE TO MEASURE SPACE POTENTIAL IN A ONE-DIMENSIONAL IONIC FLOW-FIELD, Journal of electrostatics, 42(1-2), 1997, pp. 113-122
A new probe method for the measurement of space potential in ionic flo
w field is described. This method avoids errors caused by distortion o
f the electric field due to the probe supporter and its connecting cab
le to an electrometer. Aluminum disk probes, with diameters of 267 or
274 mm respectively and a thickness of 3 mm, were levitated electromag
netically at 15 mm above the ground electrode within an ionic now fiel
d for 30 minutes or more. By applying spherical probe theory to the me
asured values of the probe potential, the equivalent spherical radius
of the probe has been estimated as 10-20 mm.
