Abstract
We show that the general evolution of the tangent to a curve in three- dimensional space can be transformed to a modified form of the Belavin -Polyakov equation. Using this, we fmd a rich variety of exact instant on and twist solutions for several classes of evolution. Certain physi cal applications are also discussed. (C) 1997 American Institute of Ph ysics.
