Abstract
The temperature dependence of spontaneous strain is investigated in th e ferroelastic lock-in phase of [N(CH3)(4)](2)CuCl4 crystals by therma l mechanical analysis. The critical index of the order parameter modul us is found to be beta =0.33. Considerable wall displacements have bee n detected for shear stress as small as sigma(p) =2.4kPa which indicat es that the mechanical pinning energy is extremely small.
