Effects of the temperature, carbon monoxide content in a mixture with
ethylene, molar ratio C2H5AlCl2:Ti(O-n-C4H9)(4), and pressure of the e
thylene-CO mixture on the kinetics of monomer consumption in the cours
e of the ethylene-CO copolymerization in n-heptane were determined. Th
e structures and some properties of the final copolymers were studied.
It was established that carbon monoxide exhibits lower reaction abili
ty toward copolymerization than does ethylene. The molecular mass of t
he ethylene-CO copolymer is lower than the mass of polyethylene obtain
ed with the same catalytic system. IR spectroscopic data show evidence
of a random structure of the copolymers.
