Polymeric supports of gel-immobilized metal-complex catalytic systems
based on nitrogen-containing macroligands-polymer-polymer complexes be
tween poly(4-vinylpyridine) and poly(methacrylic acid) and poly(methac
rylamide), which can form a cooperative system of interchain donor-acc
eptor or hydrogen bonds, were synthesized. The synthesized supports pr
eserve all the main advantages of nickel gel-immobilized metal-complex
catalytic systems of the first generation based on poly(4-vinylpyridi
ne), although differ by the stronger binding of the catalytically acti
ve transition-metal complexes. In addition, the systems based on poly(
methacrylamide) show high selectivity with respect to I-butene in dime
rization of ethylene. The IR spectra of nickel gel-complexes with new
macroligands were studied. It was shown that only the nitrogen atom is
involved in coordination with nickel. Carboxyl or carbonyl groups do
not formally participate directly in coordination but function as ''ex
ternal'' ligands increasing the stability of the system as a whole.
