A method for the indirect measurement of load impedance during a progr
ammed discharge of capacitive energy storage is reported. According to
this method, the load inductance is estimated using a stepwise variat
ion of the output storage voltage. The load resistance is determined a
t the maxima of the load current. The inductance and resistance of a c
hannel of pulsed are discharge in air at atmospheric pressure are esti
mated. Measured changes in the inductance comply with evolution of the
arc discharge channel observed using highspeed film photography.
