Abstract
A quantity of interest, beta (degree of intermittency between scale hi erarchy), which appears in a recent intermittency model by She and Lev eque [Phys. Rev, Lett. 72, 336 (1994)] is computed from turbulent simu lations with Taylor-Reynolds number in the order of 100. It is found t hat the lateral and longitudinal beta values are unequal. For most of the moment hierarchy order p, lateral beta deviates more from K-41 (i. e., smaller) than the longitudinal. beta is also found to be p depende nt. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
