Rb. Sanni et al., ACQUIRED RECTOVAGINAL FISTULA IN CHILDREN - IS AIDS INVOLVED, Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique et de ses filiales, 90(2), 1997, pp. 111-112
Seven successive cases of acquired rectovaginal fistula have been diag
nosed on children of three and half to eighteen months old These fistu
la were localised on the fourchette. The seropositivity for HIV of fiv
e cases confirmed the results of similar reports found in literature.
Surgical treatment of these girls was not done because of their bad pr
esentation. Two of these children died. The other did not come for fol
low-up. The acquired rectovaginal fistula seems to be a sign of HIV in
fection. This work is meant to emphasise the relationship between AIDS
and acquired rectovaginal fistula for a closer surveillance of future
cases.
