Abstract
Oxygen and carbon isotope analysis were carried out on calcified parts (gyrogonite and thallus) of four Chara globularis (Charophytes) sampl es and on water samples collected during the 1990-1991 growth cycles i n a small pond located near Lausanne (Switzerland). The preliminary re sults suggest that calcification of the gyrogonites does not occur in equilibrium with the water of the pond, but a detailed study is needed to specify the range of this disequilibrium.
