Abstract
The crystal structures of the TbMnGe, Tb3Mn4Ge4 and TbMn5Ge3 compounds have been refined by the single crystal method (Mo K alpha). These co mpounds have the TiNiSi (Pnma, R-w=0.032)-, Zr3Cu4Si4 (Immm, R-w=0.046 )- and YCo5P3 (Pnma, R-w=0.048)-type structures, respectively. The mag netic properties of TbMn5Ge3 have been studied by magnetization measur ements and it was this compound behaves ferrimagnetically below T-C=31 0 K. The structural relationships are examined and the correlations be tween interatomic distances and magnetic properties are discussed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
