Three diphosphates of Mo(VI), A(2)MoO(2)P(2)O(7) with A = K, Rb and W(
VI), K2WO2P2O7 have been synthesized. These phosphates crystallize in
the space group C2/c and are isotypic with the chain-like structure (N
H4)(2)MoO2P2O7. The single crystal X-ray structure determination perfo
rmed on the tungsten diphosphate K2WO2P2O7 shows that the geometry of
its [WP2O9](infinity) chains is practically identical to that observed
for (NH4)(2)MoO2P2O7: the nature of the M elements (M = Mo, W) and of
the A site cation (K, Rb or NH4) does not influence the interatomic d
istances.
