Abstract
This paper develops a new approach for the general description of memb rane plasma separator performance by using dimensional analysis. Exper iments involved cross-flow microfiltration of goats' blood across flat sheet polyvinylidene fluoride durapore membranes of pore size 0.65, 0. 45 and 0.22 mu m in a thin-channel device. Certain nondimensional numb ers are evolved which represent the grouping of relevant filtration pa rameters and which contribute to the global characterization of membra ne-based plasmapheresis devices.
