The preparation of LaNiO3, La4Ni3O10, La3Ni2O7-delta and La2NiO4 via L
a-methoxy-ethanolato - Ni(acac)(2) precursor was investigated. Front t
hese precursors films, fibers and powders were prepared and heat treat
ed to form LaNiO3 at temperatures as low as 750 degrees C with a heati
ng rime of 4 h. The formation of La-4 Ni-3 O-10 and La-2 NiO4 was comp
lete at 1,000 degrees C, for 4 h, while monophasic La3Ni2O7 required h
eating to 1,150 degrees C, for I h. Pathways yielding various phases w
ere also discussed briefly The techniques used in this study are TGA,
mass-spectroscopy, SEM-EDS, TEM-EDS, powder-XRD, and FT-IR spectroscop
