M. Saakes et al., PERFORMANCE AND USE OF COMPOSITE-SUBSTRATE-BASED BIPOLAR LEAD ACID BATTERIES FOR PULSED-POWER APPLICATIONS/, Journal of power sources, 67(1-2), 1997, pp. 33-41
A new type of composite substrate is proposed for constructing fast di
scharge bipolar lead/acid batteries. This newly developed substrate, u
sed for constructing 4 V bipolar lead/acid batteries, displays no corr
osion and a very low catalytic effect for both hydrogen and oxygen evo
lution. The specific resistance is 1.2 Ohm cm while the areal resistan
ce is 0.04 Ohm cm(2). The active layers are formed by the Plante forma
tion method, both in situ and ex situ. For pulsed-power applications,
where energy is quickly transferred to an inductor, a model calculatio
n is given for deriving the required ratio of the specific power and t
he specific energy. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science S.A.
