A new zinc phosphate [NH3(CH2)(4)NH3](2+) [Zn2P3O9(OH)(3)](2-) was syn
thesized under acidic conditions at room temperature. It crystallizes
in triclinic space group P (1) over bar (No. 2) with lattice parameter
s a = 8.4003(8), b = 8.6690(7), c = 10.3523(15) Angstrom, alpha = 88.2
37(1), beta = 77.732(1), gamma = 86.406(1)degrees V = 735.1, Z = 2, R
= 0.33, and R-w = 0.041. The structure consists of alternating inorgan
ic and organic layers, The inorganic layers are held together by stron
g hydrogen bonding, creating cavities in which diprotonated diaminobut
ane molecules reside. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
