Crystal-field parameters (B(k,m)) were obtained for LaOBr doped with T
m3+ from the analysis of luminescence spectra. The crystal-field Hamil
tonian H(CEF) = SIMGA(km) B(km)+ SIGMA(i) C(km)(R(i)) for the C4v symm
etry comprises five non-zero Bk,m parameters. The results of model cry
stal-field calculations in C4v symmetry for Tm3+ in LaOBr are compared
with experimental data, for the lowest ten [S, L]J states 4f12 config
uration. The set of crystal-field parameters (CFPS) calculated on the
basis set of 54 sublevels reproduced the experimental level scheme wit
hin an RMS deviation of 11 cm-1.
