PLATELET SEROTONIN KINETICS IN DEPRESSED ADOLESCENTS

Platelet serotonin basal content, uptake and efflux was estimated in e ight depressed adolescents and age and sex matched normal controls. No significant difference between the pre-treatment depressed adolescent s and matched normal controls with regards to platelet serotonin basal content, uptake and efflux was observed. However, treatment with fluo xetine, a specific serotonin reuptake blocker, produced clinical recov ery in all the depressed adolescents along with significant reduction in two platelet serotonin parameters (basal content and uptake) as com pared to pre-treatment depressed adolescents and the controls.
