Nine alophenyl)-5-(pyridyl)-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiones (15-23) were s
ynthesized by the reaction of 4-halophenyl isothiocyanates (4a-c) and
pyridinecarboxylic acid hydrazides (5a-c) through 1,4-disubstituted th
iosemicarbizide intermediates (6-14). Base-catalysed intramolecular de
hydrative cyclization of these intermediates furnished the thiones (15
-23) in good yields (50-78%). The products were characterized on the b
asis of their elemental analysis, IR and mass spectral data.
