Abstract
The characteristics of a number of phase equilibrium diagrams of syste ms containing aluminum and scandium (Al-Sc, Al-(Li, Mg, Zr, Mn, Cu, Zn , Si)-Sc, Al-Mg-(Li, Zr)-Sc) were investigated in the high-aluminum ra nge. A small, but significant, solubility of scandium in solid aluminu m was observed, which was little affected by the presence of a third c omponent. Ternary compounds in equilibrium with solid aluminum formed in only two of the systems investigated.
