Abstract
Reactive oxygen metabolites (superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl r adical, and hypochlorous acid) are important mediators of renal damage in acute renal failure and glomerular and tubulointerstitial diseases . The role of these oxygen metabolites in the above entities is discus sed, and the effects of antioxidants and scavengers of O-2, radicals a re considered. The role of oxygen radicals in the regulation of gene t ranscription is also considered.
