In this paper we analyze the properties of regular segmentation scheme
s for 2-D Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Such schemes can be
viewed as generalization of the Xilinx-like wire segmentations. We dis
cuss their routing properties and propose a new FPGA design concept of
applying architectural coupling to improve chip routability. We give
the experimental routing results of such architectures for justificati
on.
